The parishes of Linton and Over are located to the south and east of Highnam. Both are primarily dedicated to farming although, in recent years there have been residential development at Over.
Over well known for the farm and shop and what was formerly the Dog Inn, now the Toby Carvery. It is linked to Alney Island and Gloucester by Over Bridge, now used by pedestrians, but until 1966 was the lowest road crossing of the Severn. There has been a bridge at Over, where a Roman road crossed the river, from ancient times.
Over is also the confluence of the R.Leadon, the R. Severn and the former Hereford and Gloucester canal. In earlier times it was an important trading post.
